Canadian Navy Centenary Book Released

USA, 21 July, 2010, TAMPA
2010 is the 100th anniversary of Canada’s navy. The aim of the Canadian Naval Centennial is to build and strengthen in Canadians an appreciation for their navy and to promote the role of the navy within the Canadian Forces under the theme “Bring the Navy to Canadians”. Events will be focused to honour the past, to showcase the current navy and to reinforce the requirement for the future navy.
Events are planned for 2010 across the country. The highlights will be major international fleet assemblies scheduled for June 2010 in Victoria and a month later in Halifax during the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is scheduled to attend the Halifax fleet review as guest of honour. As well, a group of naval warships will visit Toronto during the Canadian National Exhibition and an increased number of port visits are planned for both coasts and in the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes.
The Centennial will be a momentous milestone for both the navy’s and Canada’s history. We will honour the past, celebrate our achievements and recognize our obligation to Canada with the naval centennial slogan: Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit.
